FAQs

Brushbox

We’re a team of people who want to change the way people think about, and look after their teeth, whilst having a positive impact on the world. We want to turn something that’s great for you into something that’s helpful for others and positive for the environment too, which is why each and every time you buy a brush, we donate one to a disadvantaged child and plant a tree on your behalf. Our sustainable service therefore sends you just what you need, direct to your door – no gimmicks, no hidden charges, just great quality products, and the knowledge that children will have been helped, and trees planted, because of you.

When life’s going at a million miles an hour, remembering when to replace your toothbrush doesn’t always seem like it should be at the top of the to-do list. It is important though - the bristles on your toothbrush wear down, fill up with bacteria and become less effective over time.  Dentists therefore recommend that we replace our brush every 2-3 months (every 2 months is ideal) so by signing up to a subscription for something you’ll have to buy anyway, you’ll be making sure that your health is looked after - and without contributing to more plastic waste.

It’s totally up to you! Pick your chosen style of toothbrush, including any additional ones for the family, add in some optional Zero-Waste Toothpaste Tabs, choose if you’d like any one-off extras (Bamboo Travel Case, biodegradable floss, our ‘Keep ‘em dry’ toothbrush stands) and we’ll send them straight to your door, right when you need them. Easy peasy.

Just click ‘Get Started’ on our Home Page and build the box you want. Once you’ve selected your items, you can add other people (so why not get Brushbox for the family?) and you can change, delay, pause, skip or even cancel your subscription(s) at any time.

Of course – just sign up for a box and you’ve got two whole months to decide whether to continue. If you do, great, but if you don’t, just log in to your account and either ‘skip’ or ‘pause’ if you think you may come back later. Or you can cancel anytime. It’s that easy.

Yes. We only want you to subscribe if you really want to (but we think after trying our toothbrushes, you will really want to). We’ll be sorry to see you go, but there’s no hard feelings – and we’ll be here if you want to subscribe again, any time.

For fairly obvious hygiene reasons, we do not accept the return of our brushes once they have been opened, however further details of our Returns Policy can be found in the link at the bottom of this page.

Completely. Our payment partner is one of the most well respected in the industry and is trusted by some of the world’s largest and most well-known organisations.  They are compliant to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) service provider Level 1, the most stringent certification available. Woah, that was a mouthful (but it’s good to know, right?).

Great idea! Our brushes (especially our Year’s Supply of Bamboo Brushes) make for great, thoughtful gifts. Just enter their address details in the shipping/delivery section and you’re good to go.

Product related questions

We’ve got two styles of Bamboo toothbrush – ‘Smooth’ Bamboo and ‘Curved’ Bamboo, both in a range of colours. You can have a look at them on our ‘Products’ page and whilst there’s no difference in quality between the two, you can swap your style/colour at any time within our customer portal . Each of these styles is also available in either Adult’s or Children’s sizes.

We do – we believe it’s important to get children excited about brushing their teeth again and what better way than by letting them know that they’re also helping those less fortunate, and the planet, whilst they’re at it.  Both our toothbrush styles come in Children friendly sizes, so you can get an eco-friendly dental subscription for the whole family.

Yes: as well as being smaller to suit little mouths and tiny hands, all of our Children’s toothbrushes have super soft bristles to help protect against excess erosion of their tooth enamel (children’s enamel is 50% thinner than an adult’s), and shorter, chunkier handles for gentle, easy brushing.

Yes! Our customers love our brushes and have done so since 2017. From a technical perspective, our manufacturing team has been supplying toothbrushes to UK, EU and US markets for over 15 years and operate out of cleanroom plants with ISO and GMP certifications. Our factories have ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO13485, GMP and BSCI Certificates, with our products being CE, SGS, BRC, FDA and Reach approved: so you can brush your teeth with peace of mind knowing you’ve got a beautiful, high quality product.

Our toothbrushes are made from carbonized FSC certified bamboo from panda friendly farms, an environmentally sustainable timber which is both water resistant and antibacterial.

We don’t want to get too technical, but a major problem is that we tend to brush too hard, which leads to wearing down the enamel on our teeth which can’t be replaced. As recommended by Dentists, our adult toothbrush bristles are ‘Soft’ and our children’s bristles are ‘Super Soft’, to avoid this excess erosion and help keep your teeth as healthy as possible.  If you’ve never used Soft bristles before then it might take a couple of brushes to get used to, but rest assured that they are doing just as good a job (better in fact!) than medium or hard bristles, and in the long run you’ll never want to go back.

Absolutely! Our Zero-Waste Toothpaste Tabs are made by Dentists using only the highest quality, 100% natural ingredients without any of the nasty preservatives that you often find in conventional (water based)toothpaste.  They also contain the perfect amount of toothpaste you need, in one tab. Whilst they can sometimes take a little getting used to, all you have to do is bite, chew and brush - see our additional question below (“Are your Zero-Waste Tabs any good”) for further detail.

Our toothpaste is manufactured by our award winning partners in Germany who are industry leaders in the development and manufacture of sustainable, health focussed alternatives to conventional toothpaste manufacturers – you’re in safe hands!

Absolutely!  Conventional toothpaste consists of approximately 50% water, and in order to bind this water to the ingredients and extend its shelf-life, a number of preservatives (commonly polyethylene glycol) and stabilizers are needed.

Our Zero-Waste Toothpaste Tabs on the other hand do not need or contain any such additives/preservatives and consist of only the highest quality (100% natural), actually necessary ingredients, required  to ensure your teeth get only the ingredients they need.

Used every day our Tabs will help whiten your teeth, remove extrinsic stains (red wine, coffee, nicotine, tea, etc.), reduce tartar build up, prevent decay, maintain healthier gums and teeth, keep your breath fresh and also strengthen teeth.

They are produced in a resource-saving manner and packaged in biodegradable bags which can be disposed of along with your organic waste - better for both your teeth and the environment!

Our Zero-Waste Toothpaste Tabs use 100% natural ingredients. They are plastic, SLS and cruelty-free and are also free from preservatives, artificial stabilizers and any other potentially harmful ingredients!

They are 100% vegan-friendly and certified as natural cosmetics with the BDIH-COSMOS label of certification.  The precise ingredients (take a deep breath…) are:

Microcrystalline Cellulose, Sodium Bicarbonate, Silica, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate (nb: not to be confused with Glutamate found in food enhancers commonly used in the food industry - our Tabs are glutamate & gluten free), Magnesium Stearate, Natural Mint Aroma, Xanthum Gum, Stevia, Citric Acid, Menthol, Eugenol, and Sodium Fluoride (w/w 1,450ppmF)

Definitely: our Tabs are perfectly suited for children.  A common problem with young people is they often use too much toothpaste - our Tabs provide the perfect portion of paste, to ensure you’ll never run out too soon, or use more than you need.  They also offer a gentle minty taste that both little people and big people will love!  As with all toothpaste, it is recommended that a specialist paste is used for children under 3, and if your child is aged 6 or under then any brushing should be supervised by an adult to help monitor technique and to minimise swallowing.

Oral Health Questions

Toothbrushes wear down, fill up with bacteria and so become less effective over time. Dentists recommend that we don’t go any longer than 3 months without replacing our toothbrush (though every 2 months is ideal)  – so we want to make sure you replace yours on time, before it becomes ineffective.

You only need a pea sized amount – and luckily for you that is precisely what each of our Tabs contain!  They also contain a foaming agent to help reach all parts of your teeth.

No! Our toothpaste forms a protective coating of fluoride over your teeth to continue fighting plaque long after you’ve finished brushing – don’t rinse it away!

Short answer: yes. You’ve only got to do it once a day, and after a few days, you’ll have your technique down easy. Floss will reach and clean areas of your mouth that your brush can’t reach.  And our Floss is unique in that it is 100% biodegradable after it’s been used - so you can rest assured that keeping your teeth healthy will not negatively impact the environment or animal life.

Environmental & Sustainability relatable questions

Our bamboo toothbrush handles are 100% compostable – just remove the bristles first (a small pair of pliers or tweezers will do the trick!)  Bamboo is also the fastest growing plant (yes, it’s a plant!) in the world and captures a huge amount of carbon dioxide in the process, making it one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly materials in the world!

All our brushes also come packaged in biodegradable wrappers before then being placed in a fully recyclable & FSC certified outer Brushbox mailer, with all pulp sourced from well managed and sustainable sources.

Yes! By creating less waste, you will have less impact on the planet. And, because we use existing delivery networks, the C02 emissions from delivery are negligible.

Our bristles are made with the highest-grade BPA-free nylon, derived from sustainable bio-based sources. Now, before you say anything, yes this is technically a plastic, however bristles that are both Vegan friendly and plastic-free simply (unfortunately) don't exist at the moment. Most brushes that claim to have biodegradable natural bristles are using Boars hair which, aside from the obvious ethical issues, isn't anywhere near effective enough at actually cleaning your teeth like they’re supposed to. It is important to us and our values that we offer a product which is as sustainable as possible, without sacrificing oral health (and, our brush is still 99% less plastic than a standard toothbrush – and we think for that reason alone it’s worth the switch!)

It’s estimated that we use approximately 1 billion (plastic) tubes of toothpaste a year, the vast majority of which are not recyclable (due to their coaxial plastic/aluminium lining) and as such end up in landfill.

Our Zero-Waste Toothpaste Tabs are packaged in fully compostable and plastic-free bags which can be disposed of directly into the organic waste. They are also made from 100% natural ingredients so that both your teeth and the environment will benefit.

And because our Tabs provide the perfect portion size you need, there’s zero excess paste being wasted and as such no excess or unnecessary consumption on the planet’s resources.

They do - Fluoride is a naturally occurring ingredient which has been clinically proven to be perfectly safe, and remarkably effective, at protecting your teeth.  It is the single most important & powerful ingredient to ensure a healthy mouth and a happy smile.  Our dental experts would never let us provide you with toothpaste without it!

Our biodegradable packaging contains 125x Tabs, which is enough to allow you to brush your teeth twice a day, for 2-months.

Ok, get ready…

Step 1:  Take one Toothpaste Tab, place it in your mouth and start to chew, using the saliva already in your mouth (NB: this may take some getting used to, but stick with it, you got this!) – use this time to get your bamboo toothbrush ready….

Step 2:  Wet the bristles of your bamboo brush and start brushing your teeth as normal, foaming up the Toothpaste Tab and ensuring all your teeth are covered.

Step 3:  Then after 2-minutes, just rinse & dry your brush/bristles, and spit - but don’t rinse!

So that's... Bite, Chew, Brush.  Simple :)

Keep your Tabs in a cool dry place - any air-tight container will do, however our Bamboo & Frosted Glass Jar offers the perfect environment to keep your Tabs safe!

Delivery Questions

If you live in the UK then your subscription will be completely free!  Certain ‘one-off purchases’ do have a small delivery charge attached but this will be clearly communicated once you enter your address at the checkout.  Delivery outside the UK but within the EU is currently £3.99.

If you live in the UK then your box(es) should take around 4-5 days to arrive after ordering however in some cases it can take up to 10 days.  If you live outside the UK then please allow for up to 15 days for delivery.

Unfortunately not - subscriptions are sent using Royal Mail rather than individually couriered. Not only does this help keep costs down (so we can pass this cost saving on to you) but this also means we are using existing delivery networks, so we do not unnecessarily increase carbon emissions.

We currently deliver throughout the UK & Europe, however we may look at delivering our toothbrushes further afield if the demand arises... Watch this space!

Our subscriptions are currently set to be delivered once every two months – the optimum time as recommended by Dentists.  You can change this frequency after subscribing by logging into your account, and don’t worry, we’ll always notify you before your next delivery is due, just in case you want to pause, skip, amend or cancel.

Very rarely do we have delivery issues. However, if you’re unlucky enough for your order not to arrive within the timeframe quoted above then please email us at hello@brushbox.com and we will get the issue resolved for you.

No problem! Just log into your account and change your address (you can also change other things here, like your payment information).
